Navigating the Dashboard

Home Page Layout

After logging in, GeoNode opens to the Homepage. The layout includes the following key features:

Feature Description
Top Navigation Bar Provides quick access to Resources, Datasets, Maps, Documents, Search, and your User Menu.
Resource Tiles Display the most recent or featured content for easy access.
Search Box Enables global, full-text search across all available resources.

Top Navigation Bar

The Top Navigation Bar provides quick access to the main features and resource types within GeoNode.


Button Description
All Resources View and create resources of any type.
Datasets Browse, upload, or manage spatial datasets.
Maps Create new maps or view existing ones.
Documents Upload and manage supporting documents.
GeoStories Create immersive stories by combining text, interactive maps, and multimedia content.
Dashboards Add and manage widgets such as charts, maps, tables, text blocks, and counters.
Avatar Menu Access your Profile, Recent Activity, Favorites, Inbox, and Logout options.
About Discover people and groups, and invite new users.


Type any keyword or phrase into the top navigation Search Box and press Enter to view results across all available resource types.

Search Page Filters

Once on the Search page, you can refine your results by clicking the Filter and selecting from the following options:

  • Resource Types
  • Categories, Keywords, Regions, Owners, or Groups
  • Date range
  • Spatial Extent


You can also sort the results by clicking the Order by dropdown and choosing from:

Date Most recent or Least recent
Alphabetical A → Z or Z → A
Popularity Most popular

Resource Pages

Clicking on any of the following tabs will take you to its dedicated page and display all available items of that type:

  • All Resources
  • Datasets
  • Maps
  • Documents


Each resource tile includes:

Element Description
Thumbnail Visual preview of the resource, such as a map snapshot or file icon.
Title Custom name given to the resource.
Owner Username or organization that created or uploaded the resource.
View Button Opens the resource in its appropriate viewer.
More Menu (⋮) Provides extra options like Clone, Edit, Delete, and Share.
