Uploading Datasets

In GeoNode, datasets represent either vector or raster spatial data and form the foundation of your spatial content. Each dataset includes rich metadata and supports collaboration through comments and ratings. Uploading datasets is essential for sharing and managing spatial information on your GeoNode instance.


Step 1: Access the Upload Page

  1. From the GeoNode Homepage, click the Dataset tab.

  2. Then, select the New button and choose Upload dataset from the dropdown.

You can also start the upload process from the All Resources page via Add Resource → Upload dataset.


Step 2: Select and Upload Files

  1. On the Upload a Dataset page, click Select files....

  2. Navigate to the Data folder and select all 5 components of the landuse shapefile.

  3. Once selected, click Upload.


GeoNode will display a progress bar while it uploads and unpacks the shapefile.

Step 3: View Your Dataset

Once the upload is complete, click View to open your new dataset.


This takes you to the Dataset Detail page, where you can:

  • Interact with the dataset on a map viewer
  • Edit metadata such as title, tags, and abstract
  • Download the original files
  • Leave comments or rate the dataset
