Other Useful Tools

GeoNode offers two powerful tools to help you communicate your data more effectively: Dashboards for dynamic data analysis and GeoStories for immersive storytelling.

Dashboard

Dashboards are interactive workspaces where you can combine maps, charts, tables, text, and counters. These widgets can be connected to allow deeper exploration and analysis of your data. Dashboards are useful when you need to:

  • Provide a visual summary of complex datasets
  • Create interactive views with linked widgets
  • Conduct basic analytics across multiple layers

To create a new dashboard:

  1. From the Homepage, go to Add Resource → Create Dashboard.

  2. An empty dashboard will open.

  3. Click Add Widget and choose the type (e.g. map, chart, counter, table, text).

  4. Customize each widget and connect them as needed.

GeoStories

GeoStories let you combine text, interactive maps, images, and videos into rich, scrollable narratives — perfect for telling stories with data. With GeoStories, you can:

  • Craft multimedia narratives
  • Embed GeoNode maps and documents
  • Add external media (images, videos, iframes)

To create a GeoStory:

  1. From the Homepage, go to Add Resource → Create GeoStory.

  2. Add sections using the Add Section button at the bottom of the container.

  3. Use the Edit Mode button to insert maps, images, and videos from GeoNode or external sources.
