Styling Data¶
Maps help you understand data better by visualizing it in different ways. In GeoNode, each dataset gets a Default Style based on its content. When uploading a dataset, a default style is created automatically — which you can adjust to best tell your data’s story.
Step 1: Open the Styles Panel¶
-
On the Datasets page, click View to open your dataset.
-
In the top navigation bar, click Edit → Edit Style.
-
The Styles Panel will open, showing the default style and editing tools.

Step 2: Edit the Style¶
-
In the Visual Editor, you can adjust style attributes and define styling rules.
-
Use the 3-dot menu next to the default rule to select Classification style.
-
Choose your preferred:
- Color ramp
- Classification attribute
- Interval method & size
- Outline color & width
-
To save your style changes, click Apply.

Step 3: Preview the Dataset¶
Click Go back to ... to view your updated dataset.
