14. GeoNode Quick Start Guide

GeoNode is a platform for managing and sharing geospatial data — including datasets, maps, documents, and dashboards — with built-in tools for collaboration and publishing.


14.1 Getting Started

14.1.1 Create an Account

  1. Visit the homepage and click Register. Register Page
  2. Fill in your username, email, and password. Register Form
  3. Check your email and confirm your registration. Success Notification

14.1.2 Set Up Your Profile

  1. Click your profile icon (top-right) → Profile. Profile Dropdown

  2. Click Edit Profile to add:
  3. Name
  4. Organization
  5. Contact info
  6. Profile picture

14.2 Uploading Data

14.2.1 Upload a Dataset

  1. Go to All ResourcesAdd ResourceUpload Dataset.

  1. Select vector (e.g., .shp, .kml) or raster (e.g., .tif) files.
  2. Click Upload, then View.

14.2.2 Upload a Document

  1. Go to DocumentsNew or All ResourcesAdd ResourceUpload Document.

  1. Choose between uploading:
  2. From your Local File
    Local File Upload
  3. As an External URL
    External URL Upload

14.3 Creating a Map

  1. Go to MapsNew, or use Add ResourceCreate Map.
  2. Optionally create a map directly from a dataset.

14.4 Sharing & Permissions

  1. Go to the resource (dataset, map, or document).
  2. Click Share → set permissions for:
  3. None
  4. View Metadata
  5. View and Download
  6. Edit
  7. Manage

Click Save to apply changes.


14.5 Finding Data

Use the Search bar or filter panel to find resources by:

  • Keyword
  • Type
  • Category
  • Owner
  • Date
  • Extent

14.6 Other Useful Features

  • GeoStories
    Create immersive narratives with text, maps, videos, and images.

  • Dashboards
    Build analytical views using maps, charts, and counters.
