14. GeoNode Quick Start Guide¶
GeoNode is a platform for managing and sharing geospatial data — including datasets, maps, documents, and dashboards — with built-in tools for collaboration and publishing.
14.1 Getting Started¶
14.1.1 Create an Account¶
- Visit the homepage and click Register.
- Fill in your username, email, and password.
- Check your email and confirm your registration.
14.1.2 Set Up Your Profile¶
- Click your profile icon (top-right) → Profile.
- Click Edit Profile to add:
- Name
- Organization
- Contact info
- Profile picture
14.2 Uploading Data¶
14.2.1 Upload a Dataset¶
- Go to All Resources → Add Resource → Upload Dataset.
- Select vector (e.g.,
.shp
,.kml
) or raster (e.g.,.tif
) files. - Click Upload, then View.
14.2.2 Upload a Document¶
- Go to Documents → New or All Resources → Add Resource → Upload Document.
- Choose between uploading:
- From your Local File
- As an External URL
14.3 Creating a Map¶
- Go to Maps → New, or use Add Resource → Create Map.
- Optionally create a map directly from a dataset.
14.4 Sharing & Permissions¶
- Go to the resource (dataset, map, or document).
- Click Share → set permissions for:
- None
- View Metadata
- View and Download
- Edit
- Manage
Click Save to apply changes.
14.5 Finding Data¶
Use the Search bar or filter panel to find resources by:
- Keyword
- Type
- Category
- Owner
- Date
- Extent
14.6 Other Useful Features¶
