About Seabilwe

Seabilwe leads Kartoza’s training efforts, bringing academic excellence and a passion for education to the role. With a Master’s degree in GIS and Remote Sensing from the University of the Witwatersrand, she has deep expertise in both the technical and pedagogical aspects of geospatial education.

Her educational journey - from BSc in Geological Science through Honours in Geography to her Master’s degree - has given her a comprehensive understanding of Earth sciences and spatial analysis. This background enables her to teach GIS concepts with the depth and rigor they deserve.

Seabilwe is particularly passionate about the application of open source software and open data for positive impact. She believes that accessible geospatial tools can transform how people understand and interact with their environment.

One of her key focuses is training QGIS for secondary students and teachers, helping to build geospatial literacy from an early age. By equipping educators with GIS skills, she’s creating a multiplier effect that benefits countless students across South Africa and beyond.

As training lead, Seabilwe develops curriculum, conducts workshops, and ensures that Kartoza’s training programs meet the highest standards. Her combination of academic credentials and practical teaching experience makes her ideally suited to bridge the gap between advanced GIS concepts and learners at all levels.
