Course Overview

This self-paced course consists of four stand-alone GIS extension lessons, each aligned to a topic in the Grade 12 Geography CAPS curriculum. Learners and teachers can work through the lessons independently — at their own pace, at any time — making it ideal for exam preparation, SBA tasks, and supplementary classroom resources.

Each lesson comes with an instructional video, written notes, GIS data, and a marking guide. Together the four lessons cover the full range of Grade 12 Geography case study topics: Climate, Geomorphology, Economic Geography, and Settlement Geography.

Explore climate data using GIS. Learners work with climate zone layers, temperature and rainfall datasets, and produce maps that illustrate climate patterns. Aligned to the Grade 12 Climate & Weather case study requirements.

2Geomorphology — GIS Extension LessonSelf-Paced

Use GIS to analyse landforms, elevation data, and drainage patterns. Learners produce terrain maps and interpret geomorphological features relevant to the Grade 12 Geomorphology topic.

3Economic Geography — GIS Extension LessonSelf-Paced

Map economic activity, infrastructure, and land use data. Learners use GIS to visualise and interpret spatial patterns in economic development, aligned to the Grade 12 Economic Geography case study.

4Settlement Geography — GIS Extension LessonSelf-Paced

Analyse settlement patterns, population distribution, and urban growth using GIS. Produce maps showing settlement hierarchy and spatial relationships relevant to Grade 12 Settlement Geography.
